Moving to a new community can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. Newcomers often face the challenge of finding reliable information about local resources, services, and opportunities to get connected.
The Newcomer Welcome Kit Project was created to address this need. As Neighbor-to-Neighbor (N2N) AmeriCorps Fellows at International House Davis, Hendrix Dyke and Kwynsky Miguel recognized the importance of providing newcomers with a centralized, accessible resource to help them navigate life in Davis.
The Welcome Kit is designed to help newcomers feel connected and supported as they settle into the Davis community. It includes information on local services, community organizations, transportation, healthcare, cultural resources, sustainability initiatives, and opportunities to get involved.
This project reflects International House Davis’s commitment to fostering belonging, cross-cultural understanding, and community connection. We hope the Welcome Kit serves as a valuable tool that helps newcomers feel welcome and at home in Davis.
Get to know the creators of the Welcome Kit
Hendrix Dyke
Hendrix Dyke served two years as an AmeriCorps Fellow at International House Davis. Originally from New Jersey, he relocated to Davis to take on the fellowship and found it to be an incredibly rewarding and humbling experience. Through tabling at the Farmers Market and participating in local events, he enjoyed getting to know community members and learning what makes Davis such a special place. Passionate about service and community engagement, Hendrix hopes this Welcome Kit helps newcomers navigate the city, connect with local resources, and become involved in the many activities and opportunities Davis has to offer.
Kwynsky Miguel
Kwynsky Miguel served one year as an AmeriCorps Fellow at International House Davis. Originally from San Francisco, California, and a 2025 graduate of Lehigh University, she supported programs such as Roots & Routes, created graphics and marketing materials for events and resources, and worked to develop new ways for community members to engage with I-House programs. One of her favorite memories was assisting with the Becoming, Belonging, Being, and Beyond event, where she had the opportunity to celebrate her Filipino American heritage. She hopes this Welcome Kit serves as a reliable and accessible resource for newcomers as they explore Davis, connect with the community, and make the most of all the opportunities the city has to offer.
