Everything You Touch, Touches You: A Hands-On Collaborative Ceramic Installation
Join ceramic artist Pinar Brummer for a hands-on, community-led gathering at International House Davis, in two parts. Together, we’ll shape a collaborative tree sculpture, then slow down to hand-build our own small ceramic pieces. No experience needed, just a willingness to show up, get elemental, and tap into some childlike joy.
Pinar opens the gathering with her own story, her journey from Türkiye to Davis, and how it inspired this project, before inviting you to get your hands in the clay and be your childlike self.
Part One: The Tree. Everything you touch, touches you is a reflection on togetherness, on how we’re not just observers but active participants in a shared experience, connected to each other and the world around us. At the heart of the gathering is an incomplete ceramic tree, hand-built by Pinar, waiting for your mark. You’ll shape a clay leaf to join it, no skill required, each one becoming part of a lasting, collective piece.
Part Two: The Tea Cup. Pinar will guide you through hand-building a small, imperfect tea cup, a slow, meditative practice that celebrates flaws rather than smoothing them away.
The finished tree will be on display at International House for several weeks, then celebrated at a Reveal Party where you’ll see how everyone’s marks came together into one collective piece.
Come ready to get your hands dirty and leave a piece of yourself behind. This is a sensory, emotional experience that gets you in touch with your childlike core, and with each other. Ages 16 and up.

About Pinar Uncu Brummer:
Pinar arrived in the U.S. in 1999 as a graduate student on scholarship, earning her master’s degree in Plant Genetics. She stayed in the U.S., became a citizen, and has lived in four states. She has now lived longer in the U.S. than in Türkiye, where she was born and raised.
Pinar has resided in Davis for nearly 12 years, where she runs her ceramics studio, Pixley Ceramics. She creates wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramics but has shifted her focus over the past year and a half to sculpture, her most direct form of self-expression.
Her work has been shown at Pence Gallery and Third Space Collective in Davis, Alpha Fired Arts in Sacramento, Blue Line Arts in Roseville, and Ri-Nu Imagination in Rancho Cordova where she exhibited an installation, “Don’t Look At Me With Those Eyes” consisting of 47 ceramic Venus figurines, as a part of the group show “Once Upon A Now: Myth Reimagined.”
