Join us to celebrate Stephanie Thayer’s Communidad Portrait at a physically distanced social gathering on I-House terrace
Please join us for an in-person showing of local artist, Stephanie Thayer’s community portrait series, “Comunidad.” Thayer drew inspiration to start this project while looking at a picture of her friend, Dzokerayi and thinking about all the amazing things Dzokerayi does and has done for the community. Because quarantine was starting due to COVID-19 and she wouldn’t be working for three weeks with the school district (where she is a paraeducator), Stephanie decided to do a series of color pencil portraits of Dzokerayi and 9 other community members. After finishing the majority of her 10-portrait series, Stephanie was generously awarded a grant by the City of Davis Arts & Cultural Affairs program and completed a few more. For Stephanie, creating this portrait series was an act of love, and a way to give back to the community and help bring joy to others/ help us feel connected during these difficult times.
Hors d’oeuvres (catered by Zim Cuisine) will be served and live music will be played by the incredibly talented Vanessa Esmeralda Mendoza Barajas. An introduction of each portrait member will happen around 4:30 pm. Please wear a mask and be prepared to physically distance from others. The I-house will be open for a physically-distanced gallery walkthrough and the party will take place outside on the Terrace. Please bring your own drinks (alcohol okay).
