Gamelan Sekar Jaya is coming to Davis! Join is for a day-long celebration of Indonesian culture with Gamelan Sekar Jaya, including two hands-on workshops for families and an evening concert of Balinese music and dance. Each activity has its own registration event page below.

3:00-4:00pm | Balinese Music & Dance Workshop 

Join us to learn about the music and dance of Bali in an interactive workshop for all ages! You’ll learn basic dance positions and techniques, see how the instruments of the gamelan work together, and have a chance to try out a few instruments for yourself.

5:00-6:00pm | Kecak Vocal Percussion Workshop 

Learn about Balinese kecak, a vocal percussion tradition that imitates the sounds of the gamelan ensemble. Led by Balinese master artists Ni Nyoman Srayamurtikanti and I Made Suteja, participants will explore kecak’s movements and vocal rhythms suitable for all musical levels.

7:00-8:30pm | Gamelan Sekar Jaya Concert 

Gamelan Sekar Jaya presents a concert featuring traditional and contemporary compositions for gender wayang quartet and an excerpt of the Ramayana performed in the style of wayang wong dance theater.
