In 2021, Solidarity Space and I-House Davis launched a call for digital artwork to be placed at the Solidarity Space Davis in Central Park. The artwork submitted was created in response to these questions:
- What does Solidarity Space mean to you?
- What does Black and Brown joy look like?
- What does an antiracist future look like in the City of Davis?
In January of 2023, the “Art of Solidarity” banner was installed at Central Park Davis featuring artwork by nine community members. The banner states: “The Solidarity Space is a place to process, grieve, support and stand in solidarity where the Davis community can come together to stand against racism, oppression, and injustice and work towards dignity, justice, and belonging. Since 2020, community members have activated the Solidarity Space. In 2021, artists were invited to imagine an anti-racist future, and celebrate black and brown joy. These ideas will inform a permanent public art installation to inspire an equitable and vibrant future.”
