Join us for a special, family-friendly evening with Takumi Kato, a renowned taiko drummer and lion dancer from Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Performing alongside his three young sons, their group — Peaceful Forest — is touring the U.S. with a mission to share 1,000 performances that inspire peace and understanding across cultures.
This memorable night will also feature talented local performers:

- Naoko – koto and shamisen
- Rie – dance

Artists Bios:
- Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko: Based out of the Northern California Koyasan Buddhist Temple, the Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko program is open to people of all ages and backgrounds. The group emphasizes personal development and cultivating compassion through the musical journey. While largely a youth program, people of all ages can have the heart of a child playing music together.
- Bakuahtsu Taiko Dan: is a UC Davis is a student-run performing ensemble at UC Davis dedicated to sharing our love and respect for taiko with the community through the teaching and performing of the Japanese American style of ensemble drumming called kumi-daiko.
- Rie: Rieko Kotoku was born and raised in Tottori, Japan and now resides in Sacramento, California. WIth a strong background in taiko and folk dance, Rie blends both traditional and contemporary music and dance into her own unique style.
- Naoko: Naoko is a Davis resident and classically trained performer in koto, shamisen, and biwa. She began her musical journey at age 6, studying under renown masters and gained her professional certification from the Todo Music Association. Naoko has spent over three decades performing across the United States and Japan.
